Australian Cobberdogs
Origin Of The Australian Cobberdog
The Australian Cobberdog has been developed by the original founders Rutland Manor and Tegan Park Breeding and Research Center in Australia, along with current modern breeders. The health and temperament of Australian Cobberdogs have been the main focus, while still striving toward the long-term vision for this breed.
Foundation breeders have had to make and continue to make tough decisions to ensure that the health, temperament, predictability, characteristics, and management requirements are optimized in these dogs.
The Australian Cobberdog ancestors have been selected for what they were able to contribute to the development of this new breed, which is a canine companion that is more reliably suited to therapeutic roles.
Cobber of Cobberdog means friendship so it was also renamed Australian Cobberdog to primarily be able to identify dogs of a new breed.
In January 2012 the Australian Cobberdog was accepted as a new breed in the development by the Master Dog Breeders and Associates (MDBA) a worldwide breed registry. This means there are regulations to follow and puppies are sold with a pedigree. Our breeding dogs are all comprehensively DNA-tested for inheritable health issues, which helps keep the breed strong. We are able to ensure consistency of the breed standards that have been established over generations. Through careful breeding practices and keeping the bloodlines pure- a warm gentle nature, strong bonding with humans, highly intuitive and intelligent, different size options, and different hypoallergenic coats.
What Is The Difference Between a Labradoodle and an Australian Cobberdog?
I have often been asked the difference between a Labradoodle and Australian Cobberdog. Although they do look very similar, the Labradoodle was involved in the Cobberdog's early development along with many other breeds in the early stage. The Australian Cobberdog now has its own unique genetic blueprint and predictable traits.
The Labradoodle is a crossbreed, the Australian Cobberdog is a pure breed in development.
What Colors Do Australian Cobberdogs Come In?
Australian Cobberdogs can vary in many different colors:
- Raven Black
- Red
- Chocolate
- Cream
- White
- Apricot
- Parti-Color
- Caramel
There are many colors with different hues and shades in between, they are all beautiful. While we may all have a favorite color we do ask puppy buyers to be somewhat flexible when it comes to color.
Australian Cobberdogs Coat Types
Australian Cobberdogs have three different coat types:
- Straight Fleece Coat: this coat classed as straight falls in gentle waves, it will be light in density, and holds no odor, has little to no shedding and dirt falls out as it dries.
- Wavy Fleece Coat: like the straight fleece coat the wavy coat also falls into waves and has the same similarities as the straight fleece coat.
- Curly Fleece Coat: as you may have guessed by the name the curly coat is a lot curlier than straight or wavy coat. The curly coat can be a little harder to care for in a long length so is normally kept shorter.
